Homage to Tage Nielsen

The upcoming concert in the concert series Modern Monday is an homage to Tage Nielsen

On Monday 25 February the concert series Modern Monday will praise Tage Nielsen with a concert programme featuring solo pieces, a duo and a trio performed by Mathias Kjøller (clarinet), Brian Friisholm (cello) and Erik Kaltoft (piano).

Tage Nielsen's oeuvre as a composer contains a number of works in his own significant, personal style. He was strongly inspired by the sound world he found in works by composers such as Boulez, Nono, Berio and Castiglioni. "I tried to create my own lyrical Darmstadt dialect fitting my own voice as a composer," he wrote in 1999.

Besides from his work as a composer, Tage Nielsen played an essential role in the development of the Danish classical music scene through his career in the music department of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation, as principal of the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus and Director of the Danish Institute in Rome.

The concert programme for Modern Monday is:
Two Nocturnes (piano)
A Winter's Tale (clarinet & piano)
Uccelli (clarinet)
Fantasy piece (cello)
Three character pieces and an epilogue (piano)
Improvisation and Fuga (clarinet, cello & piano)
