London Sinfonietta unveils brutal Marula by Jexper Holmen

2011-10-14

“Extremely heavily” with a “brutally sustained character” - “as if the carved blocks were relentlessly paced forward by a stream of lava”. Yes, indeed, Jexper Holmen now unveils the fruit of his first year in collaboration with London Sinfonietta. It’s named Marula, is composed for clarinet, string trio and analogue ring modulator, and this baby will be world premiered next Thursday on October 20 at Kings Place in London. Be there and beware for Marula.

As we earlier have featured Jexper Holmen has an ongoing involvement as composer in residence for the trendsetting Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. London Sinfonietta will give Marula it’s second British performance on November 19 at the second day of the festival.

With Marula Jexper Holmen has reached the third part of the four part cycle Miranda-Medina-Marula-Melonta. The completely distorted saxophone concerto Miranda was premiered in Aarhus earlier this year, and the monotrone based Medina had it’s world premiere only a month ago in Oslo at the ULTIMA Festival. Now time has come for Marula.
