The Rolling Force was dedicated to Danish cellist Morten Zeuthen. The work is in three movements – the 2nd and 3rd are played ”attacca”. Like my clarinet trio ”The Four Winds”, this work is inspired by the American anthropologist and author Carlos Castaneda. The title is taken from his book ”The Fire From Within” which describes Castaneda’s experiences and his attempts to acquire the seemingly supernatural and mystical forces of the Indian wizard Don Juan. Thus this rolling force is cosmic, and of a constructive as well as a destructive nature; it is symbolized by a gigantic eagle. Therefore the 1st and 2nd movement might be called a sort of film music without the film. They are both dramatic and eventful, whereas the 3rd movement is of a more contemplative and static nature.
